From our humble beginnings in 1975 as a kiosk in a shopping mall, selling only whole bean coffee, we have continued towards our goal of being the Canadian specialty coffee brand of choice. In addition to coffee-based beverages, Second Cup cafés carry a variety of complimentary products, including fresh locally baked goods and Better For You smoothies. Recently, we’ve introduced Pinkberry® frozen yogurt into cafés across the country and Second Cup has the exclusive rights to this category in Canada.

Second Cup only selects from the top 2% of the world’s production of coffee.  All coffees are “third party certified” to be grown, harvested and processed in a sustainable, socially- and environmentally-responsible manner.  

Our procurement team has worked tirelessly to find food options you can be proud to serve. Our high-quality, delicious food offerings are hand-crafted in local bakeries and feature a modern take on classic tastes. Second Cup now has a Clean Label beverage line. This means our beverages have no artificial colours or flavours, no preservatives or high fructose corn syrup.

Second Cup’s network of Franchisee Partners deliver a premium coffee experience in a wide range of venues – Downtown street front locations, in shopping centres, power centres and strip malls, as well as drive thru full service cafés. Our Real Estate team sources high quality locations based on an extensive checklist. Second Cup signs the Head Lease and sublets these locations to our Franchisee Partners. You’ve also seen our strong brand presence in non-traditional retail sites such as hospitals, universities, airports, train stations, community centres and gas stations.

Non traditional locations are available with customizable programs to fit every business model.

Financial Requirements 

Total Investment:
Your total investment ranges from approximately $300,000 - $500,000*

This is comprised of:

  • Equipment, leaseholds, fixtures and signage 
  • Construction, design and engineering 
  • Franchise Fee ($40,000) 
  • Pinkberry Sublicense Fee ($5,000) 
  • Project Management Fee ($5,000) 
  • Training 
  • Plus inventory and applicable taxes


*To qualify, you must have at least 40% of the above total in unencumbered cash plus working capital. Applications should have a minimum net worth of $750,000 or greater.

  • Royalties: 7.5% of gross sales 
  • National Co-operative Marketing Fund: 2% of gross sales

Experience and Enthusiasm 

Here’s what we’re looking for:

Personality - You like making people feel good. You’re patient, understanding, easy to talk to and outgoing.

Experience - You have at least 5 years of business management, retail or hospitality experience and a sound understanding of financials.

Leadership - You can hire, train, organize and inspire a barista team to give their best efforts every day.
